Many of you have reached out to me to see if I could share information and tips on social media, and I thought it would help you the most if I let an expert speak instead. Meet Tara, social media guru and founder of Social T., a boutique digital marketing agency located right here in Vancouver. Eight years in, she continues to provide a unique approach to building authentic online connections and I'm so grateful that she took the time to share her incredibly insightful knowledge and tips with us:

Q: What made you decide to start your own business?

I had the desire to carefully pick the clients and team I collaborated with. A company where our clients inspired us and felt empowered, creative. An environment that ignited us to put our heads and hearts into what was being produced. To bring bright minds together who share a similar energy and strive to be efficient and effective in how they get things done.

Q: Where does your passion for social media come from?

7 years ago I had the opportunity to work in mid-senior marketing roles where I learned how to do marketing skills that I still use today. It was in those full-time opportunities that I noticed myself being MOST interested in social media so I taught myself how to leverage social for B2B & B2C businesses.

During this time, it became clear that I needed to be more passionate about what I was writing. I dove into the world of consulting to be more selective with the industries I created content for. Soon enough I was collaborating with businesses that had a team, energy and company vision that were irresistible, such as Blue Grouse Estate Winery & Nectar Yoga B&B.

We’ve been lucky enough to partner with lawyers, recruiters and business consultants too! These accounts are informative and practical and can resonate with a surprisingly large audience.

The blend of professional services and lifestyle/plant-based clients keeps our team highly engaged and our creative writing skills on point.

Q: For someone, who works in social media, how do you disconnect at the end of the day?

I am notoriously hard to get a hold of on my phone. My friends & family text or call, but I prefer to have a "digital detox" when I get home. On my limited time outside of the business, I prefer to have face-to-face conversations with my phone tucked away.

One of our values at Social T. is ENERGY. When people meet me, they feel more connected and understand why we're so vibrant in our online presence. I believe our passion for social, entrepreneurship and building genuine connections shines through from the moment we shake hands.

Q: What advice do you have for people who would like to turn their passion for food & social media into a business?
