SOCIAL MEDIA FOR CEOs
HOW TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS A CEO
Everyone agrees that it’s important for businesses to be on social media, but what about CEOs?
In 2020, having a digital presence of some kind is especially crucial for CEOs and executives. Giving your business an authentic voice is key to building trust with your customers and network.
We’re sharing our top social media marketing tips for CEOs, and how engaging on social media as a CEO can help grow your business.
Be authentic.
Whether you already have a personal account or are creating a new one from scratch, find a “voice” for your social media and keep it consistent and interesting.
Don’t just use social media to sell! While you do represent your company, the goal is to be an interesting, authentic and engaging figure in your own right.
The best CEOs on social media offer a window into a world most people don’t see, so share those ‘behind the scenes’ photos and videos of your professional life.
OBSERVE YOUR AUDIENCE.
Social media is a great tool for CEOs to find out what customers love or hate, and overall what their feelings are. Observing customer reactions on social media tells a CEO what’s happening with their business and helps them understand how to participate in online conversations in a meaningful way.
engage with Your Network
Be sure to engage with customers and other business leaders online by liking, following, retweeting, and replying to messages. This is the simplest way to show your network and customers you care, and it also builds credibility.
Don’t forget to engage with your team on social media, too! Cross-promoting content is the quickest way to extend your reach.
Establish yourself as a thought leader.
“Thought leader” is not just a buzzword! Offer your audience valuable insights into your industry, leadership tips, commentary on news or trends, and be someone who people want to follow.
Think about Bill Gates or Arianna Huffington. We certainly admire them for their businesses, but many are inspired by them as individuals, for what they believe in and how they educate their communities in meaningful ways.
Plan your content.
Create a social media content calendar and commit to posting regularly. Remember, quality is better than quantity. Whether you post everyday or 3 times a week, just be consistent.
If you don’t have time to do it yourself (CEOs often don’t!), have support staff or a social media agency help you create baseline content, so you can focus more on engagement if needed.

Be a brand advocate.
Build excitement around your brand and innovate your business with ideas from your followers. Click for some great examples from Elon Musk and Brian Chesky. Utilize your employees and turn them into brand advocates on social, too! The more people who share your content, the wider your reach and potential customers.
